This beautiful blend supports your liver by cleansing, restoring, regenerating and protection.

Milk Thistle Seed: Contains silymarin that regenerates new liver cells, protects the liver from environmental toxins. Very effective for fatty liver, liver disease and cirrhosis.

Dandelion Root: Cleanses toxins built in the liver, clearing built up hormones as well.

Burdock Root: Cleanses the liver and produces bile; very effective for those that have had their gallbladder removed. Burdock is also a desmutagen: deactivating cancer causing agents.

Artichoke Leaf: Cleanses the liver, supports the gallbladder, reduces fat content in the bloodstream and makes digestion more effective.

Here is a link to some slides I created on the importance of digestive bitters in the diet. My liver blend would also be considered a good digestive tonic.

Liver Information:

🌿Major detoxification organ of the body, filters blood and removes wastes, harmful chemicals and bacteria
🌿Major estrogen regulating organ. Regulates and produces estrogen, as well as proteins that carry estrogen.
🌿 Manufactures immune substances
🌿Stores vitamins
🌿Stores 13% of the body's total blood supply
🌿 Stores energy in the form of glycogen

🌿Metabolizes proteins, fats and carbohydrates which provides nutrients and energy
🌿Creates bile, which breaks down fat via the gallbladder (located under the liver).
🌿Helps maintain electrolyte and water balance.

Okay let's understand how the liver works:

Many toxic substances (environmental, food additives, medications, herbicides, pesticides, preservatives, heavy metals, too much alcohol and sugar) are Lipid Soluble. This means they dissolve only in fatty or oily solutions, not water.

The liver has Lipid Soluble membranes; making it capable of breaking down these substances and are then in turn released through the kidneys and bowels.

However, our bodies are oftentimes overloaded with the substances mentioned above, intentionally or not. Our livers simply cannot keep up. These Lipid substances become trapped in the liver and other fatty tissue in the body resulting in an unhealthy, clogged liver, unhealthy fat tissue, weight gain, etc.

Toxin enters the body 👉 liver is overworked from trying to break down current toxins 👉toxins store in liver or becomes stored in the body. Toxins literally are trapped in the body and cannot be broken down.

(Adapted from Dr. Christopher Hobbs)

Let's dig beyond what the liver does and how it works 👇

Remember how I said toxins are Lipid Soluble and they store in the liver and other fat tissues?

These toxins can store for months even years actually causing many imbalances and unwanted symptoms.

They are released through exercise, low food intake and/or fasting.
Exercise: The body releases these toxins (via the lungs during heavy breathing and skin through sweating). Does your skin itch or breakout when you start an exercise program? Do you feel dizzy, nauseated or have a headache when trying to lose weight? Does this seem to be even more true the older you are?

Trying to lose weight? Here's something that is untrue: you won't be hungry or have unpleasant symptoms while trying to lose weight if you go steady and don't try crash diets. UNTRUE.
This might be true in your teens and 20s but by the time you hit the late 30s and beyond a lot of toxins have stored up from eating, drinking and your environment. It's not going to be pleasant at first. But it does get easier as your body adapts and more toxins are released. DON'T GIVE UP.

So we know that environmental toxins, foods, etc. can overwork and damage the liver. But what about stress and hormones?

🌿Stress produces adrenaline and cortisol in our bodies. When that is being spiked several times a day or week or month, it cannot break down fast enough and becomes stored in the liver. This causes emotional imbalances such as anger, depression, mood swings, etc.

🌿Estrogen imbalance in the body also causes this hormone to store up in the liver. This can causes unwanted symptoms of PMS.

There are solutions and help! This is fixable with dedication and intentional eating and exercising.

Herbs and foods to help your liver function at its best!

🍋 Lemon is a great way to cleanse your liver. 1-2 T in water up to 3x a day.

🍊Liver Flush: Mix any fresh squeezed citrus juices to make 1 cup of liquid. Orange, grapefruit, lemon, lime. Add 1-2 fresh squeezed garlic cloves, plus small amount of fresh squeezed ginger. Mix in 1 T of high quality olive oil. Blend and drink. Do this for 10 consecutive days each morning.
(Dr. Christopher Hobbs)

When the liver has been overworked (as discussed in part 1&2) symptoms such as unstable emotions, menstrual issues, headaches can occur along with many things I discussed.
A good liver cleansing formula includes 🌿Dandelion Root, Chicory Root, Oregon Grape Root, Dandelion Leaf, Ginger, Fennel Seed, Yellow Dock, Gentian Root.

Herbs that protect the Liver include:
Reishi Mushroom, Shiitake Mushroom and Milk Thistle, Turmeric. Milk Thistle actually regenerates NEW liver cells. 👏👏❤️

When there is blood deficiency in the liver (remember it stores extra blood) the spleen needs to tonify with Nettle Leaf, Rehmannia, Yellow Dock.

For stagnation of the liver there will be bile issues, mood disorders, breast lumps, etc. These herbs will stimulate the liver: Artichoke Leaf, Cyperus, Fringe Tree Bark, Lemon, Oregon Grape Root, Ginger.

A side note about Artichoke Leaf: indicated for gallstones due to its bile moving properties, is cholesterol lowering, treats cirrhosis, poor digestion, anger, acute headache, gout.

Ingredients: Organic herbs of dandelion root, burdock root, milk thistle seed and artichoke leaf, GF alcohol
