Hot flashes are one of the most common symptoms during perimenopause and after menopause is complete. They are very uncomfortable and can be embarrassing! It's no wonder women look far and wide for cures.
The reason hot flashes happen - fluctuating and low estrogen. Once a hot flash starts, a woman can start to have anxiety, which can make the sweating worse.
First of all, even though they are a nuisance at first glance, try to see the silver lining: this is a surge of the metabolism as well, warming the body and burning some extra calories! (Women that hold a lot of estrogen in their tissues, tend not to struggle as much with hot flashes as women who don't.)
Here are the herbs I chose to use and why:
Black cohosh: This is the #1 herb globally that contains natural phytoestrogens. These help to raise estrogen levels in the body and therefore decrease hot flashes. Contains phytoestrogens in the form of: Triterpene glycosides (like actein and cimicifugoside), Phenolic compounds, Flavonoids (but not isoflavones)
Linden: This is a natural cooling herb - it helps to bring the core temperature of the body down.
Ashwagandha: A calming adaptogen that helps to lower stress and anxiety, especially in the moment of having a hot flash.
Red Clover: Also contains phytoestrogens but in the form of isoflavones which are plant based. Also found in kudzu root and soy products. This works the same as black cohosh - increasing estrogen levels.
Dandelion Root: Making sure the liver is functioning properly is essential in any attempt to turn the hormonal system. Dandelion root is an effective and gentle liver cleanser.
Use as often as needed throughout the day. Can be taken as a preventative or acutely in the moment of a present hot flash.
Ingredients: Organic herbs of Black cohosh, Linden, Dandelion Root, Red Clover and Ashwagandha. GF alcohol.
